NEET- 2023-2024 (Undergraduate) (or NEET (UG)), formerly known as the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), is an all-India Pre-medical entrance exam for students wishing to pursue undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), and equivalent AYUSH (BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, etc.) courses in government and private institutions in India, as well as those wishing to pursue primary medical qualification abroad.

The exam is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which sends the results to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s Directorate General of Health Services and State Counseling Authorities for seat allocation.
The All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) and many other Pre-medical exams held by states and medical institutes were superseded by NEET-UG. However, due to lawsuits filed against the exam in 2014 and 2015, it was unable to take place.

WHAT IS NEET ?

NEET-UG is a single entrance exam for over 66,000 MBBS and BDS seats throughout India. Following the enactment of the NMC Act 2019 in September 2019, NEET-UG became the common all-India entrance test for admissions to medical colleges in India, including the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), which previously had separate entrance exams.

NEET was supposed to start in 2012, however it was postponed. The CBSE and the Medical Council of India, however, decided to postpone NEET by a year for a variety of reasons. The government of India announced the test, which was held for the first time on May 5, 2013 across India for students seeking admission to undergraduate and postgraduate medicine programmes. On July 18, 2013, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of 115 petitions, cancelling the NEET exam and declaring that the MCI could not meddle with college admissions.

NEET 2023 – 2024 Following the announcement by the Medical Council of India that the NEET-UG exam would be introduced in 2012, several states, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu, expressed strong opposition to the change, claiming that the MCI’s proposed syllabus differed significantly from their state syllabus. Despite the fact that NEET 2016 is held in English and Hindi, students will be able to write tests in Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese, and Gujarati starting in 2017. Students will be able to write exams in nine Indian languages as well as English now that Kannada and Odia have been added to the list.

On July 18, 2013, the Supreme Court of India struck down the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to all medical and dental institutes. The Supreme Court of India has declared that the Medical Council of India is unable to conduct a single examination.
According to a 2013 statement by CBSE, the AIPMT would be held on May 4, 2014.
The final decision on NEET UG was supposed to be made after the Supreme Court of India issued its ruling.
The NEET-UG results and All India Merit List are announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education. The merit list and wait-list are generated in accordance with Supreme Court of India, DGHS, MCI, and DCI guidelines.
